An electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) is a quick, painless test that records the electrical activity of your heart. It is one of the most commonly ordered cardiac tests and can detect irregular heart rhythms, signs of a previous heart attack, heart enlargement, and other abnormalities.
At Tampa Heart and Vascular Associates, EKGs are performed in-office with same-day results interpreted by our board-certified cardiologists. The test takes approximately 10 minutes and requires no special preparation.
When is an EKG ordered?
EKGs are commonly ordered as part of a routine cardiac evaluation, pre-surgical clearance, workup for chest pain or palpitations, monitoring of known arrhythmias, and annual cardiac checkups.
